Department of Journalism and Visual Communication
Introduction
In 1981, the department of Journalism and Mass Communication was established. This was the first time that such a department had been established in the Daegu Gyeongbuk region. More than 1,500 of our alumni are actively employed in various fields including journalism and the visual-contents industry.
A master's degree program commenced in 1988 with a Ph.D. program following in 2001, a first outside the Seoul metropolitan area. With the establishment of graduate programs, the department of Journalism and department of Journalism and Mass Communication is fulfilling a leading role in the study of the complicated nature of communication phenomena and the re-education of local Journalists.
Furthermore, the department of Journalism and Mass Communication runs both the "Digital Media Practice Lab." and the "Visual Media Center." Our department has been nurturing journalism and visual-contents industry professionals equipped with the knowledge of communication theories and practical abilities.
The department is doing the following to nurture visual experts in the media industry :

The department is doing the following to nurture visual experts in the media industry :
- Operating the 'Center for Local Digital Media' with the support of the Korean Broadcasting Industry, since 2004.
- Selected as a college for the "Broadcasting Equipment Support Project for Universities" by the Korean Broadcasting Commission in 2007.
- Selected as a 'Specialization Project' school at Keimyung University.
- Venture enterprise initiated by students in 2009.
